O come, o come
The prophets wrote of One who would come as Saviour of Israel. O come, O come, Emmanuel is a translation of a twelfth century Latin hymn. It echoes the ancient yearning for the Messiah and expresses our present hope in Jesus. The final lines of each verse, while identical, could be seen to morph from expressing the Jewish longing of old to our longing that Israel may recognise Jesus as Messiah.
